According to the effect the artist wants to achieve, she may size the supports completely, or only the areas where the subject will be painted.

She sometimes coats the wood directly with acrylic paint, then applies gold leaf (or gilding) using Nikawa glue (Japanese glue made from deer hide).  She may sand the gilded surface, sometimes overpainting it, or buffing it to give patina.

An animal’s expression is very important because it is through its eyes that we are able to understand what it feels and discover its innermost soul.

The artist’s sources and inspirations generally come from photographs;  then she tries to add more narrative and emotional content. Through her love of detail, she is able to create the illusion of a reality the viewer does not usually see.
