Chantal Porras spends many hours observing animals in their natural habitat as well as watching them on film, in order to represent their elegance and character in her finished pieces. After creating her sculptures in the classic manner, she pares down their forms, creating planes and angular edges that accentuate the lines of strength. She tries to find a balance between the softness of a curve and the vigour of prominent angles, seeking to bring out the sensuality of the animal. She does not strive for objective and anatomical realism, but tries to inspire awareness of the beauty of the living world. Her works are finished with intense patinas that capture the eye and enhance their form and volume.
